Seine Zurückgezogenheit machte es der Plattenfirma nahezu unmöglich, Nick Drake und seine Platten zu vermarkten. Dennoch erhielt er für Pink Moon einige wohlwollende Kritiken.

VW verwendete im Jahr 2000 Pink Moon in einem Werbespot. Dadurch wurde der Song einem größeren Publikum bekannt.
